Have you ever played a support hero in Dota 2? If you do then you will notice that most of support heroes has a stun ability or disable ability like Earthshaker, Sand King, Nyx Assassin, Lion, Earth Spirit, Leshrac, Rubick, Treant Protector, Centaur War runner, Witch Doctor, Tidehunter, Crystal Maiden, Lina and Zeus, Zeus' second skill Lightning Bolt has also mini stun. Every stun ability has a different stun duration and cool down, some has also cast time that enable you to stop after casting. For example Earthshaker, Earthshaker's fissure stun ability has cast time and it can be stopped after casting also his second skill it has cast time. Just make sure you have pressed the stop key before the cast time or before it's being executed. In playing Dota 2, support heroes are very useful in team fights and initiations, they are the best disabler against those enemy heroes that has a channeled ability, it is a great establishment for a support hero whenever they interrupt a channeled skill during team fights. In early games, stuns are very useful because most heroes don't have magic resistance or immunity yet so stun abilities are overpowered and will definitely disable enemy units.
However, during late game stunner heroes or stun abilities will be useless in team fights whenever the enemy heroes activated their Black King Bar item in their inventory. When Black King Bar is activated from the inventory of a certain hero he will grants spell immunity with 10/9/8/7/6/5 duration and he will not be affected or disabled from magic spells casted be enemy heroes, unless if an enemy hero has Abyssal blade because even in avatar mode of Black King Bar the Abyssal Blade's active stun ability can interrupt of stun you within 2 seconds stun duration and there are also other spells from different heroes that will affect you while in avatar mode like Bloodseeker's ultimate Rapture and Sniper's assassination. However it doesn't dealt damage to your hero.
Other professional Dota 2 teams picks stunner heroes to their team draft to execute as a team hero combo in team fights, they pick more than 1 or more than 2 stunner hero sometimes because the more the stuns the longer the enemy is being disabled and the more damage will be dealt.
When playing support or stunner hero, I advice you to be more quick and fast than your opponent because when encountering an opponent and you stunned him first you will be able to kill him first or you will be able to flee against him while he is still stunned so be sure that your fingers and mind are quick and fast.
So how to execute stuns properly?
If you are playing a stunner hero in Dota 2 you should know your stun abilities, whether it has cast time or none. Because there are also enemy heroes that can dodge stuns like Puck, Phantom Lancer and those heroes that has Blink ability or those who has blink dagger item. For example, when you use Centaur Warrunner and you have casted stun against Puck then Puck can dodge it with his Phase Shift, so observe your opponent properly whether he will dodge your stun of not. When he dodge then quickly press "S" or stop key in your keyboard , it will automatically cancel your Hoof Stomp. However when the stun has been already executed then you can no longer stop it and it already costs mana and already in cool down on that stun ability.
